Football Federation of Abkhazia

Abkhazia are the reigning champions of the Conifa World Football Cup, winning the 2016 tournament as hosts after beating Panjab 6–5 on penalties in the final. They completed the tournament unbeaten, scoring 15 and conceding only one goal in five matches.

They first entered the competition in 2014, winning their group then having eliminated by South Ossetia on penalties. This means that Abkhazia are technically unbeaten in the history of the World Football Cup, making them one of the strong contenders before the 2018 edition.

Football is by far the most popular sport in Abkhazia, having been operating its own amateur football league since 1994.
